📜 Our History
Claremont Primary School is located in the South Eastern Constituency of St. Ann, situated on a hill away from the hustle and bustle of town. Founded in 1894 by the Presbyterian Church, the school was originally called Pinnockville Elementary School and later Claremont Elementary School.
The original building still stands. In 1948, the school moved to the former Homeside Property and was renamed Claremont Primary School. It opened with 28 students (ages 7–12), 2 teachers, and a monitor on January 15, 1894. Official recognition came on June 6, 1894 through the "Negro Education Grant" from Britain.
The first recorded student was William Lewis of Coultart Grove, born June 5, 1882. To date, approximately 22,200 students have been educated here, served by 9 principals and 9 vice principals over the years.
